Hidden Gems and Solo Travel
Every city has those amazing spots that unless you were looking, you just wouldn’t know that they were there. And I find that the older a city is, the more saturated with culture and art it becomes. But discovering those meaningful places may seem a little scary on your own. Here are some of my favorite hidden gems in Jaipur and the safest ways to see them!
Modern Meets Traditional
The Nila House is the heart and soul of traditional craftsmanship in Rajasthan. Good things take time and at Nila House they are working hard to preserve the traditions of natural and sustainable textiles traditional to this region of the world.
Rajasthan, Land of the Kings
My husband and I moved to Rajasthan six years ago, sight unseen (well, he had seen it about a decade earlier but I’d never even Googled it). Since then, I’ve come to really love this place. It feels like home in spite of the nearly daily reminder that I’m not from here as the locals stare or shout, “Which country?!” I don’t mind it though. This is a land of curious people! And a friendly conversation is as common as a goat on the palace walls.

Hawa Mahal is translated “The Wind Palace”. Built in 1799 by the Maharaja for the royal ladies, this narrow palace boasts 953 lattice windows which allow wind to push through the halls, creating a naturally air conditioned salon where the ladies could discretely observe street life below while tucked away from the public eye.
